🚀 3-Step Installation

Pocket Money runs on your own computer or home server using Docker. Your family's data stays private and secure in your home.

Choose Your Setup:

Step 1: Install Docker Desktop

Download and install Docker Desktop for Windows:

Download Docker Desktop for Windows

Note: You may need to enable WSL2 (Windows Subsystem for Linux) during installation.

Download and install Docker Desktop for Mac:

Download Docker Desktop for Mac

Note: Choose the version that matches your Mac (Intel or Apple Silicon).

Install Docker Engine for Linux using your distribution's package manager:

Note: Follow the instructions specific to your Linux distribution (Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, etc.).

You already have Docker running on your platform. Common setups include:

Synology DSM

Container Manager

Portainer

Docker Management UI

Unraid

Docker Apps

Command Line

Docker CLI/Compose

Step 2: Download Taschengeld Files

1. Open Command Prompt or PowerShell (press Win + R, type cmd, press Enter)

2. Copy and paste these commands one at a time:

mkdir taschengeld

cd taschengeld

curl -o docker-compose.prod.yml https://raw.githubusercontent.com/groovycode-xyz/taschengeld/main/docker-compose.prod.yml

curl -o .env.example.prod https://raw.githubusercontent.com/groovycode-xyz/taschengeld/main/.env.example.prod

Alternative for PowerShell: If curl doesn't work, you can use PowerShell's Invoke-WebRequest command instead.

1. Open Terminal (press Cmd + Space, type terminal, press Enter)

2. Copy and paste these commands one at a time:

mkdir taschengeld

cd taschengeld

curl -o docker-compose.prod.yml https://raw.githubusercontent.com/groovycode-xyz/taschengeld/main/docker-compose.prod.yml

curl -o .env.example.prod https://raw.githubusercontent.com/groovycode-xyz/taschengeld/main/.env.example.prod

1. Open Terminal (usually Ctrl + Alt + T)

2. Copy and paste these commands one at a time:

mkdir taschengeld

cd taschengeld

curl -o docker-compose.prod.yml https://raw.githubusercontent.com/groovycode-xyz/taschengeld/main/docker-compose.prod.yml

curl -o .env.example.prod https://raw.githubusercontent.com/groovycode-xyz/taschengeld/main/.env.example.prod

Download the required Docker files to your NAS or server:

docker-compose.prod.yml .env.example.prod

📁 File Organization

Create a new folder called taschengeld on your NAS
Save both downloaded files to this folder

Your file structure should look like:

taschengeld/
├── docker-compose.prod.yml
└── .env.example.prod

💡 Platform-Specific Tips:
Synology: Use File Station to create folder and upload files
Portainer: Use the file upload feature in Stack creation
Unraid: Place files in your Docker appdata folder

Step 3: Configure and Start

1. Rename the environment file:

ren .env.example.prod .env

2. Edit your password:

Open .env in Notepad or any text editor
Change DB_PASSWORD=YourSecurePassword123 to your own password
Use only letters and numbers (no special characters)
Save the file

3. Start Taschengeld:

docker compose up -d

4. Open Your Browser: Go to http://localhost:3000

1. Rename the environment file:

mv .env.example.prod .env

2. Edit your password:

3. Start Taschengeld:

docker compose up -d

4. Open Your Browser: Go to http://localhost:3000

1. Configure Environment Variables:

Rename .env.example.prod to .env
Edit the .env file and change DB_PASSWORD=YourSecurePassword123 to your own secure password
Use only letters and numbers (no special characters)
Save the file

2. Deploy Using Your Platform:

📦 Synology DSM

Open Container Manager
Go to Project → Create
Upload your docker-compose.prod.yml
Upload your .env file
Build and start

🐳 Portainer

Go to Stacks → Add stack
Upload docker-compose.prod.yml
Add environment variables from .env
Deploy the stack

📡 Unraid

Open Docker tab
Use Compose Manager plugin
Create new compose stack
Paste docker-compose content
Set environment variables

💻 Command Line

SSH to your server
Navigate to taschengeld folder
Run: docker compose up -d

⚠️ Important: Make sure ports 3000 (web interface) and 5432 (database) are available on your system. Most NAS platforms will handle port mapping automatically.

3. Access Taschengeld:

Open your browser and go to http://YOUR-NAS-IP:3000 (replace YOUR-NAS-IP with your server's IP address)

💡 Pro Tip: Set up a reverse proxy (nginx, Traefik) or use your NAS's built-in reverse proxy to access Taschengeld with a custom domain name like taschengeld.yourhome.local
